The Nikolai Quarter is a kind of open-air museum of the destroyed Old Berlin. St. Nicholas Church is the oldest surviving building in Berlin and now houses a museum of sacred sculptures.
Located in the Nikolai District, between the Spree, Berlin Town Hall and Mühlendamm, from 1981 to 1987 a number of historic homes from the 17th, 18th and 19th century, which originally stood elsewhere, were reconstructed. For example the Ephraim-Palais at Mühlendamm, a major civil palace from the mid-18th century. Also the courtroom on Poststraße is a copy. The Gasthof Zum Nussbaum, located in Propststraße, was rebuilt in detail.
On Nikolaikirchplatz the residence of Gotthold Ephraim Lessing are from the 17th century and the Knoblauchhouse (1759-61), in which there is an exhibition about the Biedermeier period and the influential Family Knoblauch.
From our Zarenhof Hotels Berlin you can reach the Nikolai Quarter easily by public transport.
