The 3 km long Friedrichstrasse is Berlin’s newest shopping street. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, investors built up numerous vacant lots that had been left by the GDR urban planning.
The Friedrichstadt-Passages are well known. They include Galeries Lafayette on the corner Französische Straße, “The Q.” with some high-end boutiques and Quartier 205 on corner Mohrenstrasse.
Active construction prevailed between Unter den Linden and Friedrichstrasse train station. At the headquarters of the Dussmann Group the businessman opened a media store. The train station which opened in 1882 and was a border checkpoint until 1989, was reconstructed extensively.
The Admirals Palace and the Friedrichstadt Palace in the north of the station remind, that the Friedrichstrasse was mainly a notorious nightlife district with variety shows before the war.
