Inaugurated on August 13, 1998, the Berlin Wall Memorial is now the central place of remembrance of the German division. It is located in the Bernauer Strasse and extends to 1.4 km length on the former border strip.
On the grounds of the memorial is a piece of the Berlin Wall, complemented by two six-meter-high steel walls. You will get a look on the death strip. With the other fragments of the border barriers at this location, the history of the division becomes comprehensible.
The memorial includes a documentation center and the Chapel of Reconciliation, which was created at the point where the GDR in 1985 demolished a church due to border security.
