The Oberbaumbrücke connects Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg since 1896 over the Spree with each other. Traffic as well as a subway line cross above the bridge. The supporting structure for the tracks was architecturally paneled and fitted with decorative figures. The building now resembles a castle of the Mark Brandenburg.
The arches of the metro viaduct and the middle towers were reconstructed after the fall of the Berlin Wall. During the division of Berlin, the border ran across the Oberbaumbrücke which broke the brigde.
The tallest statue of Berlin is located in the spotlight of the riverbed: “Molecule Men”, created by American artist Jonathan Borofsky, they symbolize the connection of three districts of Berlin at that point.
