Unter den Linden, the main boulevard in Berlin’s Mitte District. It leads from Pariser Platz at the eastern side of the Brandenburg Gate, where also the building of the Academy of Arts and the famous Hotel Adlon are located, about 1km in east direction to the castle bridge. It combines numerous attractions with each other.
After 1740 on today’s Bebelplatz the Forum Fridericianum was established: the State Opera, the Catholic Hedwig’s Cathedral, the Royal Library and the Palais predecessor of the Humboldt University. In 1766 the palace of the brother of Friedrich II. was added; now it is the Humboldt University.
From Schinkel comes the castle bridge inaugurated in 1824 with eight marble statues, which leads at the end of Linden to the Spree Island. Also worth seeing are the Old State Library and the House of Deutsche Bank with the Guggenheim Museum.
